Description
The eased/straight edge on a standard 3cm slab is the foundational edge profile of the entire countertop fabrication industry. This universal template provides baseline polishing parameters at 3500 RPM roughing and 2800-4000 RPM polishing that deliver reliable results across granite, marble, quartz, and other common countertop surfaces. At 1.181 inches of profile height, the 3cm thickness has become the residential standard, offering sufficient mass for structural overhangs while keeping material costs reasonable. Every fabrication shop should have this template loaded and ready as the default starting point for jobs where material-specific parameters are not required or when working with an unfamiliar stone variety for the first time.

Installation Overview
This universal 3cm eased/straight template serves as the industry baseline for edge fabrication across all stone types. The DXF profile defines a simple 90-degree edge face with a lightly eased top corner, requiring only standard polishing pads with no specialized router bits. Load the template into your CNC controller and set the 20mm roughing finger bit at 3500 RPM with a feed rate of 50-70 IPM. This moderate speed provides safe material removal on all common countertop stones. The polishing sequence runs through eight positions starting at 50 grit metal bond at 2800 RPM and advancing in 200 RPM increments through 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 3000 grit to the buff pad at 4000 RPM. These parameters represent a balanced compromise between the lower speeds marble requires and the higher speeds quartzite prefers, making them safe for any material but not perfectly optimized for any single one. When working with specific materials repeatedly, consider switching to the material-specific template variant for improved results. The eased corner detail is achieved through a slight toolpath radius at the top transition, typically removing 1-2mm of material to soften the sharp edge.
CNC Cutting Notes
Universal baseline parameters for all 3cm stone types. Roughing at 3500 RPM with 50-70 IPM feed rate. Polishing starts at 50 grit metal bond at 2800 RPM, advancing through 100 grit at 3000, 200 grit at 3200, 400 grit at 3400, 800 grit at 3600, 1500 grit at 3800, and 3000 grit at 4000 RPM. Buff pad finishes at 4000 RPM. Standard 0.5mm stepover with 2 GPM water flow. For harder materials like quartzite, increase all RPMs by 5 percent. For softer materials like marble, reduce by 10 percent and consider starting at 100 grit instead of 50.
Material Compatibility
This universal template works across the complete range of 3cm countertop materials including granite, marble, engineered quartz, quartzite, porcelain, ultracompact, and soapstone. The baseline parameters represent a safe middle ground that avoids the resin burn risk on quartz while still providing adequate cutting action on harder stones like quartzite. For production fabrication on a single material type, the material-specific template variants will deliver superior finish quality and potentially faster cycle times. This template is ideal for sample pieces, one-off projects, unfamiliar stone varieties, and training new operators on the CNC system.
